Moneysupermarket.com reveals that people have driven while uninsured

A recent survey has been released by the comparison website MoneySupermarket.com, which has shown that around 15 percent of motorists have driven without insurance. The punishment for this is severe, and there is no question that it is illegal. However, the number of people driving without insurance on the UK’s roads is significant.

In order to tackle this problem a new piece of legislation called Continuous Insurance Enforcement was introduced, this means that all vehicles have to have insurance unless they have been specifically registered as being off the road.

The money comparison site also surveyed people as to why they were driving without insurance. Around 20 percent of them said they were doing this because they were not aware that insurance was mandatory. A larger number, around 30 percent, said they were driving without insurance because they were waiting for a new policy to start.

Car insurance expert, Peter Harrison, has stated, “Every year we are seeing an increasing number of people driving without insurance. This is despite the new rules that have been introduced and it shows that they have not been very effective. People must remember that if you are driving without insurance you are breaking the law and the fines for doing so are significant.”
