Pimp Your Van
Vans are spacious, practical, and functional, particularly for workers who are always on the move with their equipment. However, vans are often thought of as a characterless vehicles. Although many people choose to simply hire a van if you happen to own one and spend long hours driving it around every day, you might want to consider pimping your van so it feels more of a personal space and less of a method of transportation. There are two basic approaches to achieving this: modifying performance and modifying appearance. We prefer a comprehensive approach, so read through this guide, which will suggest five simple ways of jazzing up your van.
1- Safety first
Most drivers immediately think of making modifications to their van engine as the easiest way of pimping their vehicle. However, if you are considering making any modifications to the key parts of your van, think about safety first. Perhaps you want to swap a 1.9 engine for a 2.5, but will the brakes be able to cope with the added speed?
Most vehicles come fitted with stock brakes. These do the job under normal circumstances, but if your van is shuttling heavy loads on a regular basis, or if you do any modifications to the engine power, aftermarket breaks are a better option. These are more durable and precise, and although they are not a visible way of pimping your van, they will provide you with invaluable peace of mind. And your driving will feel much less stressful!
2- Driving in comfort
Spending 8 hours or more every day driving a vehicle can be exhausting and may give rise to back and neck problems. Even if you only drive your van occasionally you will want the ride to be as comfortable as possible. So why not consider re-upholstering the seats? This is a simple and affordable way of personalising your vehicle.
There are various option available, so do your research and consider which characteristics are more important to you. Leather is durable and easy to clean. Vinyl is even easier to clean and not as expensive. Fabric and PVC are a bit of a hassle when it comes to cleaning, but they help keep you warm in cold temperatures. Just pick what makes you more comfortable.
3- What do your wheels say about you?
Replacing your van’s wheels does not necessarily mean going for the latest cutting-edge model. Doing something as simple as buying a set of second hand rims and giving them a good clean can change the appearance of your van. The point here is not to let dusty and rusty wheels speak for themselves.
Of course, if you are more daring you can always perk up your vehicle with some modernistic wheels. Just consider whether you will be doing more driving on motorways or in the city, as this will influence your choice.
4- Bouncy rides are not what you want
If you drive on a regular basis you will know that potholes and speed bumps can seriously damage your van (and your patience!). Consider replacing the suspension in order to increase the stability of your van and its overall manoeuvrability. In addition, aftermarket suspensions will provide you with better control when cornering and will allow you to perform faster and more precise turns. High performance shock absorbers are a good idea too.
5- Accessorize
This is a sure-fire way of personalising your van and making it stand out. Some styling accessories include reclining bucket seats, 20-piece dash kits, side wind deflectors, safety side steps, sun visors, A bars or front grilles.
