Many months have passed since the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal first emerged.

It shocked the whole automotive industry and forced countries around the globe to change their policies. This lead to a widespread media frenzy, with the topic still hot today.

The question on everyone’s minds is “Will Volkswagen be able to redeem itself?”

Even though the brand has made some progress so far, it’s still a long way from the finish line.

As much as it would like to get back to business as usual, this isn’t something it can sweep under the rag and forget about.

Cheating official diesel emissions tests is a serious issue, one that comes with many consequences.

So what should the brand do to get back its customers’ trust? Let’s think.

Compensation

Although this has already been said before, the brand should focus on compensating owners of affected models.

Volkswagen has made some progress in that regard but UK customers in particular are still waiting to learn about their fate.

It might seem like a silly thing to do, as the scandal hasn’t really affected the performance of the models in question, but it is a good place to start.

Showing its customers that it cares about them is the most important thing that VW can do at the moment.

Business as usual

To redeem itself and regain its place amongst automotive royalty, Volkswagen needs to continue putting out great cars.

It’s as simple as that. If the brand ever wants to get back on its feet, it has to show the world what it can do.

Of course we know what VW is capable of, so it simply needs to continue doing what it has always done best – producing reliable cars.

With the new Volkswagen Polo on the way, as well as a planned fully-electric car, the brand’s future is looking bright.

All-electric future

If the brand really wants to show the world that it has changed, it needs to shift its focus to more eco-friendly powertrains.

The recent electric car boom is a great way to start, and it appears that the brand is using that to its advantage.

With a new all-electric car on the way, Volkswagen has the potential to turn things around.

The next couple of years will be very interesting to witness.

So, does Volkswagen has the potential to redeem itself? Yes, it does.

It will take a lot of hard work however, and the next couple of years will be crucial for the brand.

By starting with compensating its customers and offering a solution to the problem, Volkswagen will likely end up on top again.

Even though the scandal had a negative impact on the brand, it brought the issue of high diesel emission back into the spotlight.

With electric cars slowly taking over the automotive world, who knows what the future will bring.

Hopefully Volkswagen will still be around to witness the ever-changing world of cars in the years to come. Only time will tell.
